Freddy Jeans SA – My Review

About a month or so ago, I went to a “bloggers meetup” here, in Cape Town. If some of you don’t know what that is – I, as a blogger, buy a ticket to an organized get together, of like minded people (here being bloggers). We come together to network, learn about the business part of blogging and get exposed to new products and brands.

What makes these events really special, is that there are brands that collaborate and donate product for the bunch of us to enjoy and potentially tell the rest of you about. So, I’m here to tell you about the really awesome Freddy Jeans voucher, that I won at this event.

Mandy-Lee Miller from Tums 2 Tots, #Carseatfullstop and Pregnant in Cape Town (Yes! She is that amazing and running all of her platforms amazingly!) – Anyway, she was awesome enough to organize the Freddy voucher and I have thanked her many times since. If you have a click around and check out this brand you will very quickly realize why I was so grateful.

This brand of clothing has such awesome technology integrated into it, that as much as the price may make you jaw drop, literally to the floor – once you’ve had a taste…… it’s enough to make you want to save for a year and get just one piece.

So, I have this voucher in my hands and I go onto their online store and it’s mind-blowing! Ok, as a warning, when you click around – block out the gorgeous models and the fact that the clothing examples are probably their smallest sizes. I’m going to tell you why.

You see, Freddy have designed their product to fit the female form in a way that is not only comfortable, but practical too. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve had to think about wearing a longer top in case my butt or underwear pops out when I bend over to pick up toys with my 3 year old, pick him up in a public place or even sit down to dinner or at a sporting meet for my older kids – you get me right?

Well! Freddy’s signature technology is that they have a silicone strip sewn into the waste band that sticks to your body and the warmer you get the more it seals in and sticks to the form of your body. So it doesn’t drop when you bend, squat or sit down. As a mom, I was immediately drawn to them because of this feature alone.

After looking through their site and browsing a few other review videos – I kept on thinking – “I don’t want to order these online and then get it wrong! I want to go into a store and actually try one on and see where I ‘fit’ on their sizing spectrum” Which is what I did. Boy! am I glad I did because the experience was well worth the trip to the store.

I had gone into the store with the mindset – There is an online sale and so all I’m doing is trying it on and then walking out and ordering a ‘few’ online, so that I can be “that person” who has like, 6 items from a really expensive store. (don’t judge me……You know you’d do the same!)

So like I said, I was glad I went into the store because once the store assistant, Miriam asked about my sizing, particular styles I like and gave me a polite look over – she walked over to the exact pair of jeans I could try on.

She explained, that they need to be put on like a “stocking”. I can’t just pull them up because of their technology and tightness. Ok, so she hands me the pair and I raise my eyebrows and think “this is extreme wishful thinking! there is NOOOOOOO way this thing is going to fit me…….. this isn’t going to go down well” I mean the jeans were rolled up to the size of a tube of potato chips. You know that feeling you have when you just know something is going to be too small for you and the store person just gives you an item that leaves you crushed and depressed (because I just didn’t want to hurt ‘her’ feelings) – which inevitably makes you feel like the retail industry sucks and its just about money! AND I’M NEVER SHOPPING AGAIN!!

But, she handed them to me in complete confidence and then proceeds to say, “let me know once you’ve got them on, then I can help you adjust them.” OK, for those that know  how much I just “love” to be touched, would know that this was when my ‘freak out’ meter was going off! Get it right Shaveh so that she doesn’t have to ‘touch’ you!

So I slip the first leg on and its so tight, I’m thinking, “how! is this going to make it over my bum? Seriously!!! These are expensive, I could rip them with my knee cap!”

BUT, as I’m thinking this I can literally feel my legs say to me – “HEY! Keep quiet! This is actually feeling AMAZING – have a look and see”

Ok, so as I get the second leg on and pull them up, I think I’m going to have to suck in…….. nope! These things are like they were made just for me? In that moment, I literally felt like Elasta-Mom in The Incredibles, when she got her super suit and it was perfect for her ‘Mommy body’ and in ALL the ‘right’ places!

In my super confident state, I step out of the change room and think I ‘have it’ right……. Nope – Miriam adjusts the sticky bit inside the actual jeans and shows me how I’m supposed to lift and pull it a certain way so that it maximizes the perfect fit for my body! (there are more sticky bits other than in the waste band…… just saying)

Guys!! It was in this moment that I went to the mirror and dared to look at them and my jaw literally fell open and I was absolutely amazed at how classy they looked! Even though they felt super tight. They felt amazing on my skin and I could also feel the silicone strip start to warm and stick to me but not in the ‘sweaty’ uncomfortable way – more like “I’m here to help you” kind of way. I also noticed that as much as they felt tight when I put them on – it was like they adjusted to my body and just molded with my frame and my body could breathe. They also don’t buckle and pleat up the thigh – you know how pants can do that when they’re pretty tight? No pleats, just smooth fabric around my legs.

It was in this moment that I looked down at the tag (which I had avoided the whole time) and realized that they were less than I had expected and it would leave me with some extra spending money on the voucher.

Look at the difference between my normal jeans and these amazing ones.

Ok, “but Shaveh – they’re still so expensive, it just doesn’t make sense” – I hear you, so I’m going to tell you the feeling and then you can decide for yourselves.

You know that feeling you have after you have been treated to a really expensive meal, spa treatment, holiday, outing, first class flight or hotel? (If you haven’t had any of these, please save up and do one – even if it’s a small shoulder massage. The experience is well worth what it does to the soul)

Anyway, ok – remember ‘that’ feeling? Imagine walking around in that feeling whenever you wanted? That! My friend is what these pants have done for me. If I ever think I’m having a “yuck” day – I am going to whip this boys out and put them onto my body and feel like a million bucks and more when I do.

I know that isn’t the best way to lift your soul – but a girl has to have a little retail therapy to lift her wardrobe (and mommy bum). Even if it takes me a year to save up for the next pair. But that’s me as a mom of three – but a friend of mine shared on my facebook profile, just how she discovered them two years ago and now she doesn’t wear anything else. So, if you have the budget and really want to feel good in a snug pair of pants – get yourself some Freddy’s (no matter where you are in the world)
