Welcome back to our awesome series. Hasn’t it been good? These women amaze me with their generosity and willingness to share. This is what we call sisterhood and learning from each other, for real.
Today’s mom is a woman I have known for a long time as well. Whenever she walks in the room or is close by, you literally inhale natural goodness. It was the thing that fascinated me from the get go. I had to know why she smelled so wonderful – and not in a “gucci” way. It was like being next to the biggest rose or flower garden.
We met in our homeschooling environments. You see, this mom is also a homeschooling mom and when we started around 10 years ago, being brown and doing this homeschool journey wasn’t as common as it is now. Sadly the homeschooling world was filled with more of our fairer community and it wasn’t often that you got to meet someone from our races doing this.

I’ve taken the last few months to really focus in and be quite harsh on myself. I’ve been finding myself being quite all over the place with everything and not being productive with the children as well as with my own time and skills. Since January – I made sure that they had some serious routine structures in place. What’s amazing – is that now that we’re in lockdown and not able to go anywhere, the children are still thriving and not being spun out by the removal of certain extra-mural activities. I haven’t shared about our homeschooling in a long time. Can you guess why? No – I haven’t done nothing! LOL. It’s basically because nothing fascinating or out of the ordinary has been happening.
I guess there was one thing that we changed because I was becoming a really lazy mom and only marking nearer the end of the week. I don’t know if you remember me instagramming about how I prep my kids’ work the night before and then they get to wake up as early as they want to without disturbing me and start their work day. Well, what happened is that we got our printer up and running again and I decided I would prep their work for the week. Yes, the whole week. Continue reading “Homeschool feedback – September 2018”
Today I’m having one of those mornings where it’s just extremely frustrating to be teaching my kids. So, as I am losing my mind and giving very loud, firm instructions to my one child – and all I can think of is the phrase I get from soooooooooo many parents when they hear that we homeschool, “you’re so brave, I don’t have the patience to do that”. Said with a tilt of the head and admiration across their faces…….. #facepalm Continue reading “Just because I homeschool – doesn’t make me “brave””
So it’s been a few weeks of running around and burying myself in getting our routine right again. Let’s just say that it’s not going well, but we are afloat and at least I know my kids are learning something every day. Anyway, let’s get to my title……… yes, this happened…… my 10 year literally served me metaphorical medicine and made me drink a massive lesson. Continue reading “My 10 year old just told me off……..”
As most of you should know (as per the pic right up at the top of this page) we have 2 beautiful girls that we’re hopefully raising to be decent young women. It’s not a cup of tea and you know what? I’m the type of mom that has a few goals set ahead of me that I’m praying become a part of my girls every way of thinking and being. Continue reading “More “Sex Talk” with my 9 year old…..”
You know that thing that people call a “creative block”? I think I have had one of those lately – but in a strange way. Why I think it’s strange is because I have so much going on in my head and there’s too many projects to be made and blog posts to be written that I’ve actually over thought my way out of actually writing anything down or making anything. Continue reading “Just another day in our lives”
Ok, so this “groove back” thing isn’t quite working as well as I thought it would. Ever since Jude was in hospital and we’ve had to readjust our schedule for his sake – I have come to realize that I really treasured certain parts of my day and now they’re all over the place because we’ve had to reshuffle. Continue reading “7 Things I need to cope as a Homeschooling Mom”
You know this whole homeschooling thing is a real balancing act. 1. I say balancing because there’s so many fine lines that have to be drawn and watched. 2. I say it’s an act, because as much as I think I know what I’m doing – a lot of the time, I have no cooking clue and act like I do. Now, don’t use my words against me because I have a fantastic safety net which is my curriculum. So in terms of the actual academic part of it – I’m sorted – it’s more the personality and learning style thing that I’m pretty much gauging it day by day. Hello again!! I know it’s been like, for-ages since I’ve been on this lovely little window into our lives. All I can say is that since I was wrote about how I was feeling, it’s been a ridiculous journey leading up to me actually sitting here and writing something down. I was finally able to identify why I was feeling the way I was feeling, Continue reading “Feder Catch Up – it’s been a while”
